The Captain's Table

Beat the heat

Well it looks like summer has descended upon us early this year. It is steamy hot around here. The coolest place to be, is on the water. The boat moves continuously to keep you cooler. We have a double top and umbrellas to protect you from the sun. I still recommend booking at least a…

We hope you all had a good Memorial Weekend. We had a busy time and met lots of wonderful people, the weather behaved too. We had a gator swimming up and down the river, which excited everyone eating on the porch at Big Pines Lodge. The high water has them dislodged from their usual hide-outs….

We have had a lot of rain recently and the river is about 3′ above pool. With more rain in the forecast, this may mean we have low level flooding by next weekend. It will not affect us as we board from a floating dock which rises with the water. Next weekend is filling up…

What a beautiful weekend after Friday’s rain and storms. Spring and fall we are always subject to the bad weather, but we always try and stay ahead of the game so you don’t make a long journey only to be told the tours are cancelled. We have had full tours this weekend and enjoyed meeting lots of wonderful people. Next weekend is booking up too, so make your reservation on line, or call me, which ever suits you best. All the trees are green now and the critters are stirring as they look for their partners. We can never guarantee what you will see, as nature is very unpredictable, but we can assure you that you will not be disappointed with the breathtaking scenery.

Here comes spring and I know you are all ready for some warm weather. Spring break was busy and we enjoyed meeting lots of people from all over the country. A lot of people from Minnesota and Wisconsin getting away from that snow up there. It is always fun meeting people from different states and…

Spring is springing into life! After such a cold winter it is so good have warm days. Spring Break is here and we have been very busy. More and more people are booking on line so I definitely recommend booking well in advance if possible. Soon the critters will be moving as mating season approaches….

We sincerely hope you all survived the bad weather without too much of a problem. We had to shut down for two weeks but are now up and running again. We are forecast some storms all weekend but it is going to be warm. We can often just wait until the storm passes through then…

A very Happy New Year to all! Let’s hope that 2021 is a lot kinder than 2020 was. Winter is truly upon us with all her fury. Fortunately, she has allowed us decent weekends so we are still able to show you this wonderous lake. I do suggest that you dress warm, we have blankets…

Here comes winter! The Spanish moss is beautiful as it sways in the breeze, lit up by the sun. Winter is still beautiful on Caddo. Come for a relaxing boat tour away from the problems of being in the City. We have blankets for your comfort but, please, wear warm clothing, it is always a little colder on the water. On behalf of all of us at Captain Ron’s Swamp Tours we would like to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2021. We hope to be seeing you. Don’t forget those binoculars and the camera.

We trust you all had a lovely, if quiet, Thanksgiving. Christmas is  now around the corner and we hope everyone has a safe and healthy Xmas season. We will be closed Christmas Day but will be open the following day and Sunday, the same will stand for New Years Day. The weather is unpredictable at this time of year but, as long as it isn’t icy or too wet, we will still be touring Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. Blankets are provided for your comfort during the tour. The Spanish Moss is wonderful to photograph while there are no leaves on the trees. We do suggest you make a reservation to ensure you are able to tour on the day and at the time you want. You can book on line or call and leave…

What a wonderful Fall we are having! The temperatures have fluctuated but nothing too far in either direction. Along with the cold fronts comes the mist on the water in the early morning it makes the lake even more mysterious. We have ridden passengers from all over the world recently and everyone has been very respectful regarding safety. As the leaves fall they expose the Spanish Moss in all it’s glory, the lake is beautiful in all seasons. Thanksgiving will soon be here and we hope you all stay safe. We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but we will be open the Friday, Saturday and Sunday following. We will be open throughout the Winter, weather permitting, at the weekends so come and see us for a tour. We have blankets on the boat for your extra comfort during the…

We are experiencing our first cold snap of the fall. The trees are starting to turn their array of colors although the Cypress Trees in Carter’s Lake, where we take you, have had their foliage eaten by the fall web-worm. It happens approximately every 7 years and they strip the trees quite fast. Therefore, the…
